Image of the Day: Curious Turtle

A map turtle is here to direct us toward springtime.

I was so excited to see turtles out while hiking yesterday! It’s finally getting warm again. This particular turtle is especially cool as it is a bit less common than the pond sliders that have taken over many of the waterways. This one instead is a map turtle, specifically the Ouachita Map Turtle (Graptemys ouachitensis), considering its range and pattern. It was pretty cool to see this adorable reptile out basking, and with spring around the corner now, I can’t wait to see more.
