Image of the Day: Rubber Ducky in Flight

Though often imitated, this bird is rarely seen in the wild.

We talked about pareidolia two weeks ago in relation to The Face of the Cave, and today I have another example. For those who may not remember, this term is for when we see faces or shapes in random patterns. Wood grain is commonly used to illustrate this, but there’s an even more classic example: Clouds.

One afternoon while hanging out in camp at Colorado’s Black Canyon of the Gunnison- my legs occasionally need a rest from hiking- I was reclined watching the clouds and saw this one start to fly by. I felt compelled to get up and snap the picture. To me, this cloud looks just like the rubber duckies that have graced many a bathtub and Jeep, but I never expected to catch one of them flying above me in the wild.

Talk about a rare bird!
